Shovels/Excavators
Power Step (Australia) designed several types of safety access systems for the large shovels and excavators. The "Parallel Arm Design" was introduced in the mid nineties; some of these systems are still in operation in Australia and Indonesia. The design perfectly suited the application to hoist the operator from ground level to the machine's walkway [approximately 5 to 6 metres above the ground]. The O&K RH200 and RH120, the Liebherr 996, the Hitachi EX3500 and the Komatsu PC5500 at a coal mine in Indonesia were all fitted with the Power Step Safety Access System.
In 2000 and 2001, Power Step developed the Folding Retractable Stair system; a better design for the operators and service personnel; because it allowed a safer access to carry tool boxes and other items via the stair system.
The Power Step access system is evolving with machine makes and models and continues to provide the safety access and egress to most makes and models of shovels and excavators.
